Annelise HeitmanLMFT
Annelise Heitman is a Licensed Couple and Family Therapist and a clinical member of the AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.) She is a regular guest lecturer at the University of Oregon presenting on the following topics: Counseling Issues in the GLBTQ Community, Healing Trauma Through the Body, and Using the Internal Family Systems Model. Annelise also supervises therapists in training.
Annelise's work is informed by her belief in the inherent good in people. She has a knack for connecting with clients on a deeper level of understanding that fosters self-forgiveness and personal growth. Annelise cares deeply about her clients and chooses to focus on client strengths and capabilities rather than mistakes.
This approach has informed her work, much of which has been focused on women's issues, adolescent adjustment and the treatment of eating disorders. Annelise's greatest professional joy -- what makes her most proud -- is hearing from past clients that she made a difference in their lives.
Annelise is an avid hiker who enjoys camping with family and friends. She loves to paint, sculpt, throw pottery, do endless home improvement projects and could just as easily be found swimming, biking, practicing yoga or playing wii. A genuine person, the warmth and humor Annelise brings to each session helps to provide a safe place for people to open up, explore options and create change. She believes that, "Therapy is a collaboration and as a therapist I'm present to help you discover what you value and who you want to be. I won't just listen and ask how does that make you feel? but will be an active participant and guide in our work together."
