What is your specialty or focus (what client needs do you enjoy serving most)?

I have a variety of areas of interest. I spent many years working with children with behavioral struggles. At heart I am a couples and relationship therapist, but lately I have been in training to become a certified sex therapist. I am also very interested in working with less experienced therapists; I teach interns at the University and I supervise post-graduate therapists while they are working towards licensure.

What are your qualifications?

I have a Bachelor's in Psychology, and one in Sociology. I have a Master's in Couples and Family Therapy. I have been a Licensed therapist since 2009 and will finish my certification as a sex therapist in June of 2014.

What do you like best about living in Eugene?

I love Eugene! I love the culture, the diversity, the college town atmosphere, and the proximity to the mountains. I grew up in the desert, so I appreciate the vegetation, the water and the life!

Do you believe in ghosts?

No, I don't believe in things that aren't real. I wish that I did believe in some of the supernatural, but I am a scientist at heart.

What theory of therapy do you believe in the most?

I chose my model of therapy (Strategic Relational) because it makes sense to me. It is straight forward, direct and focuses on patterns of behavior and interactions. It looks at what supports those patterns and aims to break those we wish to change.

What is the best therapist joke you've ever heard?

Q: How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Only one -- but the light bulb has to WANT to change!

What is your favorite color?

Red. I think it matches my personality.

Do you have any pets?

If children count then yes, I have four pets. If not, then my best friend is my much loved dog, Buster. He is a chocolate lab/pitt mix and he is the perfect companion. He is extremely loyal and we go camping, running, swimming and hiking together. He even wears his own backpack and hiking boots and has summited many mountains here in Oregon.

What do you do in your spare time?

I am a very dedicated father to my three sons. We are an active family and we enjoy getting out in nature a great deal. I am a runner also, and ran my first marathon this year (I won't be doing that again!).

Why are you a therapist?

I am a therapist because I have a sincere desire to help people and have always been a good listener. I've always been the friend that you call when you need to talk. It seemed like a natural career choice for me.
